While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, over 10 shops are said to have been burnt down.
It was gathered that the fire service made efforts to put out the inferno but did not have enough water. They were later assisted by officers from the nearby police station as well as some residents, to put out the fire.In September 2018, a large section of the fruit garden market was razed by fire.Before that, the new market complex in Old Port Harcourt township was also gutted by fire in 2014.More on Headlines
