'These companies should not be waiting for a pandemic to hit to tell employees they can take time off when they are sick,' said a shareholder advocate.

Walmart, McDonald’s, and other name-brand corporations are trying to block their shareholders from voting to make worker protections permanent. McDonald's workers and their supporters protest what they allege is McDonald's attempts to silence a worker who spoke out about unsafe conditions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, August 7, 2020, in Los Angeles, California.

"These companies have been saying day after day that their employees matter, that their employees are essential," sad Nadira Narine, senior program director at the ICCR."The best way to show that they mean that is to extend a paid leave benefit." If shareholder resolutions end up being put up for a vote, major institutional shareholders such as BlackRock, Vanguard, and large pension funds will have the opportunity to use their huge holdings to support or oppose the measures.

Bernie shouldn’t have to. We need more unions in the US to fight for workers.

Geez. Minimum wage and loss of benefits. Those companies should be boycotted.

Forcing folks to work while sick, sickening others, what a great idea!

This is absurd. People dedicate their time to working for companies and these greedy corporations have no concept of giving back to the ppl who help bring them profits. It's such a small benefit to offer. What is wrong with this world?
