AstraZeneca told to 'catch up' on vaccine deliveries to EU before exporting jabs elsewhere

Figures from the Our World In Data website suggest that, as of Tuesday, the European Union has only administered 14 shots for every 100 people, compared with 46 per 100 in the UK.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte disagreed, and warned that there could be"broader consequences" if a stricter approach to vaccine exports is implemented. Other divisions have also emerged between EU leaders, with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz claiming that some European countries have been receiving more than their fair share of jabs at the cost of others.

In fact, the UK was barely mentioned at all - except for a quick reference to the fact that no vaccines had come from that side of the channel.

😂😂😂😂I’m sure they’ll continue to fulfil their orders as before. The EU have no leverage and they know it, hence yesterday’s backdown despite the tough talk.

She starting to grow a little moustache 😉

These are the so called EU leaders which our PM said would NOT impose restrictions on exports of vaccinations from the EU. Either he’s too trustworthy or attempting to be diplomatic but either way needs to take action NOW. Blame UK for getting act together?

The EU_Commission are playing God! If other EU countries don't want to use the vaccine, give to another country who's people will actually use it, rather than keeping it in the fridge.

The communist European Empite, the purveyors of free trade (allegedly) is now deciding whether to ‘allow’ a private company can export its product or not. The same bloc which didn’t want it because it was unsafe!

No point really. They’ve rubbished it so much to try and shift blame to AZ for their own incompetence that no one wants it. They have millions of doses that no one “trusts” thanks to vonderleyen and EmmanuelMacron. So millions more won’t make any difference.

I am now concerned and curious. Have the ingredients from China used to make AstraZeneca in Italy been researched and approved for emergency use? Could it be the cause of some of the reported side effects?

Why are EU orders of a vaccine from an independent company more important than UK’s orders, which have contractual priority? AstraZeneca is not state owned by the EU so why should the EU dictate what the company does with its product?

In other words: 'EU Citizens are more important than those outside the EU.' Nice kinda supreme feeling about being an EU Citizen. Dangerous!

They never used the supplies.

Eh countries have exported 10 million vaccines to the U.K. The U.K. has exported 0 to EU counties but you’ll hear the brexit types talk about how badly the EU is treating Britain over the vaccine lol

Ohh so last week they didn't want AstraZeneca but now...... EU Circus 🤡

I understand that the Astra Zenica vaccine requires a vital ingredient supplied by the UK. If the EU unreasonably blocks vaccine exports to the UK, it is likely not to receive the means to manufacture any vaccine.
