Treasurer JoshFrydenberg says a fall in unemployment to 5.1 per cent reflects the “resilience” of Australia’s labour market but warns lockdowns “dent” confidence and cost jobs.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says a fall in unemployment to 5.1 per cent reflects the “resilience” of Australia’s labour market but warns lockdowns “dent” confidence and cost jobs. “This was a terrific result and a reflection of the real resilience we’ve seen in the Australian labour market,” he told Sky News Australia. “We’ve now seen, as you say, nearly 1 million new jobs created since last May.

“And importantly, since the end of JobKeeper when our political opponents said the sky would fall in when we ended that emergency support program, we’ve seen 84,000 new jobs created in net terms since then.” Mr Frydenberg said the unemployment dip was a “very positive development” ahead of forecast. “We were shooting to get unemployment below five per cent – indeed the budget forecast was that was to happen next year,” he said.

JoshFrydenberg Doesn’t take into account the loss of foreign workers.

JoshFrydenberg Another factor in that number is locked borders. Because foreign workers can't be brought into Australia, companies have to use local workers. It also makes you consider whether this situation is being intentionally 'managed' by the LNP to create great figures before an election

JoshFrydenberg But has opened the door to uncapped amount of under 35yr old Brits via the UnFairTradeAgreement. So if the Coalition win the election, the borders will open immediately. Flooding Australia with cheap labour, sending unemployment through the roof. All in the name of Capitalism!!

JoshFrydenberg Money is the most important thing to a Liberal government. Priorities all wrong 🙄🙄

JoshFrydenberg Hey Joshy you know what dents confidence more...? A deadly virus running rampant.

JoshFrydenberg The unemployment figures are bogus.

JoshFrydenberg Two hour a week jobs aren’t really jobs. So stop counting them like they are.

JoshFrydenberg Rubbish . People working one or two hours a week should not be considered employed. It's smoke and mirrors by the gov . Casualisation is out of control.
