Independent beer makers have promised reform following allegations of discrimination and harassment.

, calling themselves Punks with Purpose, who claimed the business operated under a "culture of fear".

Craft ales have been around for many years, but independent breweries in the UK really began to grow in the 2000s when the then Chancellor Gordon Brown introduced the "progressive beer duty" system. This reduced tax for brewers producing less than 30,000 hectolitres a year. "They are almost a victim of their own success," said Erika Percival, chief executive of advisory firm Beyond Governance."They grow, they've got great ideas, they're really entrepreneurial," she said. "Then it gets to a point where you end up with a challenge of having structures that work with a small number of people but not with a large number of people."

Ms Buchanan said: "A lot of them have charismatic figureheads that are often put on a pedestal and seen as the be-all-and-end-all of beer. The stakes are high for BrewDog. There is speculation the company is heading for a flotation which could value the 14 year-old brewer and bar operator north of £1.5bn.Paul Jones, founder and managing director of Cloudwater Brew, told the BBC, he was now considering whether to go ahead with a contract it has with BrewDog to produce Cloudwater beer for the supermarket chain Tesco."My position is that I don't know if we can continue that association at all," he said.

I read that as sexy boys club! Count me in!

Hair salons seem to only hire women. I guess we should boycott….

And racist. 🙄 Probably.

Here we go again. At least it's not 'racist' accusation, like it is every 30 seconds of every day.

British Beer Conspiracy , 'Kin BS story

It's very clear that a lot of people want women to be quiet about the abuse they have suffered from. I want you to sit with that and think about it.

'Craft beer industry' 😂 so fat lads with scruffy beards then

mralistairgreen shocking

It’s a joke to call many of those companies craft breweries, when you go for a stock exchange flotation you’re a mainstream brewer, not a craft one. And, your company structures can no longer be those of somebody brewing in a shed !

The world is getting crazy! You can't have a photo of a man drinking beer! Waiting for what they say on Man shaving his beard in a razor ad!

shocked i tell you.

Because it’s beer? In my experience that men who drink beer like women more than men that don’t. Not always on a good way! ;-)

So many knights protecting virtue here

Going by these comments, the UK gammon industry is alive and well, though.

Discrimination, bullying and harassment are wrong. But a couple of things: I know virtually no women that like beer so maybe wouldn’t be attracted to the industry and I met my wife of 36 years at work. Asked her out. Would I now be sacked as a predator?

Oh yes women getting butthurt over anything just to get attention.

Ffs

Pick a subject, anyone will do, and the BBC will find something misogynistic or racist about it. EverydayBBCMisandry

It must be racist as well. Everything is these days.

Zzzzzzzz

Yes it is!!! Sooooo sexist!

There’s no real definition of craft bear unlike real ale.

Tha needs to get out of the SE chuck, head north of The Watford gap, plenty of crafties in’t sticks of all colours, sizes and 2 genders

And water is accused of being wet. Lol, anyone that didn't automatically deduce that a group of men obsessed w beer weren't douchey, well then... lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

More shabby journalism DefundTheBBC

Absolutely nothing standing in the way of women opening micro breweries is there. Reading msm these days is like being stuck in an 1800's time warp..

Whatever next? Absolute bollocks. Is Avon a female cult? Wake up ffs

Having a great from saying everything is racist.. and back to being sexist? Bore off!!! DefundTheBBC

good to see the BBC is up to date-this has been going on for the past couple of months on social media..

The alcoholic seltzer industry would like a word!!!

Well duh! What else was it ever going to be.

Some industries attract certain groups over others, that not always a bad thing. Disparities occur across the board, it's unreasonable to think that everything is going to be wholly representative. What's important is that people have the opportunity to do what they want to do.

Can tell it’s the summer holidays.

Pretentious craft piss is an absolute pile of shit, the women can have it for me!

Can you all please read the article… ffs

Most welcome!

The media thrives on division. Never forget that. Once reputable organisations like the BBC prefer to focus on this division than doing what they claim to do: tell us the news. Defund them.

lol women don't even drink beer they have vodka and lemonade.

More woke snowflakes

Oh for crying out loud

Change is needed big change
