A non-governmental organisation, Accord for Community Development, has empowered 20 women in Abuloma community, Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State, with N1m to support their businesses.

ACD’s Programme Manager, Enterprise Development, Mr Gideon Achomhi, said they decided to empower women because, as mothers, they were better financial managers than men. Achomhi said the grant was for women who were already in business, including trade of seafood and fish, provision, plastics and poultry.

The group disbursed N50,000 each to 20 women in the community to be repaid after one year, to pave the way for the empowerment of another set of beneficiaries next year. All rights reserved.
