Combined security operatives, which included personnel of the Nigerian Army, as well as that of the police yesterday repelled further attacks on

facilities of Dangote Cement Factory located at Obese in the Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State.

Led by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, the security operatives mounted surveillance around the cement factory in battle-ready manner and warded off the miscreants who had threatened to attack the facility in retaliation of some youths of Ibese community killed during the motorcyclists transportation union crisis that engulfed the area the previous day.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the commercial motorcyclists popularly called “okada” riders operating at the cement factory had being at loggerheads with their union officials over increment in the daily union’s ticket, which led to the death of the Youths Leader of Ibese Community, Nojim Odede, allegedly killed alongside one other person by some okada riders of Hausa ethnic tribe.

A source at the cement factory told LEADERSHIP that the clash escalated on Tuesday, when personnel of the Nigerian Army allegedly shot at the aggrieved indigenes thereby, killing one, while another was hospitalised with life-threatening injuries. When contacted, the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that only two persons were killed during the incident, stressing that the situation had been brought under control.
