that of Black individuals who do not own their own business. Creating a thriving local economy through entrepreneurship can help families build the kind of generational wealth that was denied the Black community in Tulsa 100 years ago.

But none of this can be done without the right investments. Investors, financial institutions, corporations, community lenders, philanthropists and political leaders all have an important role to play in supporting Black-owned businesses. Community-based financial institutions can also help other lenders understand the state of Black- and minority-owned businesses in any given community. It’s important to talk directly to Black entrepreneurs about what types of resources they need to propel their growth and success.
