Police are a problem, but they are nowhere near as guilty as civilian gun owners and private security companies, when it comes to losing guns.

, a total of 176,000 cases of lost or stolen firearms were reported, with a paltry 19% recovery rate.

According to Saps 2019-2020 Annual Report, the number of stolen or lost firearms – including illegal firearms – recovered was 7,141, with the audited number rising to 10,204. According to University of Stellenbosch criminologist Guy Lamb, licensed civilian firearm holders and security firms accounted for 70% of all stolen or lost firearms, with civilians losing about 9,000 licensed firearms a year.

With 13,360 incidents, Lamb noted that firearms had been the leading weapon used in attempted murder incidents and aggravated robberies. There has been a call for a national firearms audit of all police station armouries following the shocking revelations that a gun used to kill a police officer during a firefight with robbers in Brakpan in July was supposed to be in the Norwood police station’s Saps 13 storage.

The SAME journalist that talks about fair and responsible news, writes an anti-firearm article where he rubber-stamps BhekeCele's drivel. Rather, read the truth here...

What a lot of shit! Civilians don't 'lose' guns you hacks. They have them stolen or are killed for them. There's a difference!! Did you mention that civilian guns are recovered 80% of the time, whilst police firearms stay 'lost'? This is a biased, pro-government puff piece.

Fundamentally if the police did their jobs to protect the citizens, and controlled crime effectively, the average person won't need to arm themselves for protection.... But in the absence of police protection, citizens have no choice but to defend themselves. Sadly.

They are dont lose them, but are mostly disarmed by criminals. This is a plot to try and disarm law abidning citizens of their guns.

Which pose a security threat of the country if many firearms are lost carelessly.
