Federal energy minister Angus Taylor is battling to get support from the states and territories for his plan to get electricity retailers to pay coal and gas-fired power generators to keep operating.

While the Commonwealth is aggressively promoting it, the states and territories are yet to be convinced, given the scheme could undermine investment in the renewable alternatives.

"In assessing any model, Victoria will be guided by the need for a well-managed transition that aligns with our strong emissions reduction targets." "Our future energy policies must focus on supporting this transition, on clean technologies, and definitely not on propping up coal generators," said ACT Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, Shane Rattenbury.

NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean is "carefully examining" the details to "ensure any proposals work alongside the Roadmap and do not increase costs for consumers".

I am ok if the world shuts down all coal powered generators tomorrow. In saying that this is money for energy not coal, experts agree solar, wind, and battery can't do the job by itself at the moment, even California has given up and is now building 5 gas fired generators.

AEMO ISP requires approx 20GW of storage. Snowy 2.0 & battery of the nation are less than 1GW & cost $bill's, not to mention exp transmission. Tesla has hit battery cell shortages causing prices to rise already. Aus needs dispatchable power, coal/gas.

Power generators lost $-bils as coal price spiked AGL lost $1bil etc Coal is beaten by renewable so the solution is to fund coal with Clean Energy Fund ARENA LNP protection racket

I just can't even 🤦🏻‍♂️ LNPCrimeFamily

Coal socialists. That is what they are. An abhorrent hypocrisy.

😅WA should be sweating a bit I’d rekon😌 Gowan been so smug about his exports will come bite him once everyone goes green 👌 Although I hear Lithium is back on the shovel to export for the EV batteries 🔋
