Construction workers moved tables and chairs onto roads across the CBD on Friday morning after the state government closed tea rooms on worksites.When asked about the protest action on Saturday, Health Minister Martin Foley said the industry needed to “smarten up”, adding he would not rule out taking further action if people did not comply.
“To hear the very disturbing reports from the compliance blitz that basic things like no QR codes, no Covid safe plans, no density limits being applied — the basic things that keep people safe aren’t being followed,” he said. Go after the tier 3 shit carters with no covid plans or management, all the tier 1 construction sites have it all, online declarations, face scanning with temperature check, QR code’s and Bluetooth contact tracing tags. That’s just to get on site. Don’t pigeon hole the lot of us
If they don't want to play Covid Safe like every other business still operating, they have the option of not being able to work like many other people.
Simple solution. The govt pauses all construction work for a week telling workers to go home and think about their actions. After a week without any pay you won’t see any more scenes of workers blocking the streets of Melbourne with their tea room protests.
Look at that, workers take some power back from the claws of Government and they immediately threaten to shut them down.
