Social media companies to be targeted in Morrison call on G20 | LisaVisentin

Social media giants are facing a new push to reveal anonymous users who defame others, putting the issue on the agenda at a global summit this weekend where Prime Minister Scott Morrison will call for a stronger crackdown on Facebook and others.

“Particularly when they allow people to anonymously go on their platforms and publish their vile rubbish, whether that is to bully a young girl or target people online or to push defamatory statements out against people, and to do so anonymously with impunity.“That’s not freedom of speech, that’s just cowardice, and we cannot have that thrown up on our social media platforms to Australians in this country.

The Osaka statement saw all G20 leaders call for action by the social media companies to take down violent terrorist content after the Christchurch massacre that year, when an Australian gunman killed 51 and wounded 49 while streaming the murders on Facebook. “They’re still being used as a weapon right now, destroying the mental health of our young people, destroying lives, and it’s just not on in this country,” he said.

LisaVisentin Says a lot that he thinks social media is to blame rather than the appalling behavior of his government.

LisaVisentin Surely ScottMorrisonMP knows about the 77thBrigade out of the UK...

LisaVisentin So we can't point out what a useless PM he is (a fact that will not change irrespective of supplying my full name) but I could anonymously give the AG a cool million bucks?

LisaVisentin Morrison had the hide to say social media contributes to mental health issues what about MurdochGutterMedia newscorpaus and you you lot are the biggest contributors to this! 😡
