Temple Bar publican Martin Keane could be given back possession of the Iveagh Market as a result of ongoing negotiations with the Guinness family and Dublin City Council

The fourth Earl of Iveagh Edward Guinness took possession of the market building in December 2020 after it had lain derelict for 20 years while awaiting restoration and redevelopment.

Mr Keane's plan is for a "Covent Garden" style market along with hotel and restaurant facilities but both planning permissions lapsed without any development going ahead. It is understood that it has been agreed to carry out an in-depth survey of the building. A previous inspection estimated that repairs could cost €23 million.

Where was all the local representatives for last year and now all of a sudden there coming out of the woodwork jumping on the bandwagon voicing there opinion ffs

Let the government fix it up and give somthing to the people !!! not like they are given away billions to there buddies in hse contracts. ..

So many greedy people sitting on derelict / vacant property waiting for a pay day.

Very simple, make the prick pay the €23,000,000. But from lads I know who have worked(trades men) in his pub, it's like getting blood from a stone when it comes to money owed.

There should be no negotiations with that embarrassment that sat on that building for 20 years ,and don't let the people who allowed him to either..

I remember it as a vibrant market, and I can't believe the state it's been allowed to reach. If I remember correctly, Martin Keane's development plan involves not just this building but also Mother Redcaps? If so, surely the council can update the masterplan? It's a scandal.

it should be turned into a showcase for Irish food products. This has been done in a number of European cities

Should be restored and used as a market for long-term tenants.

Knock it down. It’s an eyesore. Build houses on the site.

Was amazing in its day I’m told. It’s exactly what the city needs more off.

Maybe everyone should boycote his pub and hotel in Temple bar.

So he take ownership and continue to let it rot? If he he doesn't have the funds to develop the site, which appears he doesn't, what good is it. His other sites are falling down too, and are everything that's wrong with Temple Bar
