The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were lower in choppy trade, with yields on US government securities rising on expectations of higher interest rates.

US stocks were mixed in afternoon trading as investors continue to position for a more hawkish approach to monetary policy in 2022 at the Federal Reserve.

The local currency was 0.3 per cent higher; the Bloomberg dollar spot index slid 0.5 per cent. Bitcoin was trading near $US41,800. After tumbling for most of the week, megatechs were posting modest gains and losses: Apple up 0.2 per cent, Meta up 0.5 per cent, Microsoft up 0.2 per cent; with Amazon down 0.3 per cent, Alphabet down 0.1 per cent and Netflix down 2 per cent.ASX futures down 7 points or 0.1 per cent to 7342 near 5.30am AEDTOn Wall St: Dow +0.3% SIn Europe: Stoxx 50 -0.4% FTSE +0.5% CAC -0.4% DAX -0.7%US oil -1% to $US78.
