Extreme 'no visitors' policies are being imposed on distressed residents in COVID-19 affected aged care homes in Queensland, with one facility banning visitors from even waving through windows.

Exacerbating aged care residents' stress appears to have been a mixed interpretation of visitor policies during lockdowns

More than 52 facilities in Queensland have now reported at least two infections, according to federal Health Department statistics, and yesterday three people in residential aged care died from COVID-19 in the state. The January 12 correspondence from the Churches of Christ-operated Gracehaven Aged Care Service stated the Queensland government's "public heath department" had made a "no visitors" ruling.

The spokesperson said they had offered digital visitation to residents and families when they were first notified about visitor restrictions on January 1. The aged care sector crisis is worsening with staffing problems, not enough RATs, and residents facing weeks of lockdowns. The interpretation of the rules by Queensland aged care facilities during COVID-19 outbreaks has already raised concerns with COTA chief executive officer Ian Yates.

So might killing someone

I don't have a parent in care, hope I never do. Having one in palliative, was bad enough. Right now if poss I'd want to bring them home, still pay for his place but allow nurses to be freed up and ensure my dad wasn't lonely. I know it's not that easy but I'd do it in a heartbeat

I know these places can be superspreaders for Covid, but I think loneliness during lockdown is a bigger killer. With staff already stretched they can't spend as much time with their patients and that's where the family comes in, even if it's a stroll through the gardens.

Way before covid these lockdowns happened. Stop making up lies. My whole family has worked in them for years.

I didn't know industry code included exemption from care and protection of patients

What about protecting the health if the resident's Seriously who's the editor of this garbage 😡

What industry code?. The ones Colbeck ignores as he tries to kill off our elderly people who are nothing more than a welfare drain on our system apparently?. keepthemsafe
