Chicago-based alternative meat company brings its latest plant-based products to South Africa.

, a Chicago-based meat alternative and vegan values company, has recently launched its latest addition in the alternative meat market, bringing it to South African shores.

The new additions include Seitan Bacon, Chorizo Crumbles, and Traditional Chunks. The products, which have a pork-like taste and meaty texture, are made mainly of seitan, which is made from wheat protein that has the stretchy texture of meat."We are very excited to be able to bring our Seitan range to the South African market. We are looking forward to growing the plant-based food movement throughout the continent," commented Daniel Staackmann, Founder of Upton’s Naturals.

The latest additions are high in protein, non-GMO, kosher, low in fat and with zero cholesterol, compared to animal-based meat. For R89 box, or R529 for a case of six, the alternative meats can be enjoyed in more ways than one. According to the company, the plant-based Chorizo Crumbles are perfect on tacos, nachos, pasta or with breakfast scramble.Bacon can easily be incorporated into dishes such as salads, pasta, and pizzas or as a breakfast side. Or for a recipe that requires whole muscle cuts, the Traditional Chunks easily take on the seasoning and flavour of the dish.
