Some of the world’s biggest oil companies plan to ramp up production as U.S. gas prices surge to $4 a gallon

But even with those sharp increases, keeping a lid on oil and gasoline prices will be difficult if Russia’s 5 million barrels per day of oil exports are taken off the market. The U.S. industry imports only a modest amount of Russian oil and refined products, but trading firms around the world are beginning to shun Russian supplies as governments tighten the financial sanctions on Russia in response to President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Still, James Burkhard, head of oil markets for IHS Markit, said the Biden administration was likely looking for the backing of OPEC, whose members would need to boost output if countries were to try to ban Russian supplies. Biden has pledged to try to shield U.S. consumers from the energy market fallout, but that plan has been undercut by the images of bombings and attacks that have sent Ukrainians scrambling to flee the country and are driving up the civilian deaths. Lawmakers from both parties in Congress are working on bills to inflict greater pain on the Russian economy.

John Hess, CEO of oil and gas producer Hess Corp., said last week’s announced oil release, part of international disbursement of 60 million barrels, was too modest to affect the market. The Biden administration release amounts to about 1.5 days of U.S. consumption.

While they still make billions in profits!!!!

In other words the U.S. is beating the war drum to raise the price of oil to make itself money (at our expense) and hide the fact that Russia is sanctioning the hell out the U.S.

It won't matter how much they ramp up the production of oil, the price of gas will not go down. This is the tactics of the rescumplican party to give the advantage to any rescumplican who is up for reelection. Don't fall for that. STOP VOTING RESCUMPLICAN!!!

I get a feeling this is two fold.. 1st & ALWAYS their priority is of course their profits.. 2nd the politicians they support.. it’s in big oil’s interest to make it hard on US administrations .. to drive and of course fund their agendas on Capitol Hill.. always follow the money

THANK YOU president Xi Jinping, China is teaching how to defy racism all over the world,

A bit LATE I would say. This shows the timidity of a bunch of CEOs afraid of making decisions that may jeopardize their multimillion dollar salaries. Americans be damned.

johnorthrop How about they cut their profit margin for the good of the economy?

Now? Because they didn't see it coming?

1 - ramp up production of oil 2 - shift to renewables for energy independence ASAP

Support American oil and gas companies.

there was a thing called green, and what was green 😂😜😳🙃

Something tells me the oil companies still won't lower prices. This is just a smokescreen.
