Fuel companies are not obliged to pass on excise cuts to consumers, consumer watchdog CCPC says. TheHardShoulder

The consumer protection watchdog says fuel companies are not obliged to pass on cuts in excise duty.

It says it can investigate"in very specific circumstances" and refer a case for criminal prosecution where businesses form a cartel and collude to fix prices. "We were disappointed with just a 12.5c [reduction] because we put six different scenarios to Minister Ryan six weeks ago.Mr Drennan says the result they got"didn't hit the mark for us".

Why.... Why are they not 'obliged' to pass on a gov cut... That's an absolute kop out if ever I've heard one... What's the point of YOU if you offer no protection to the public. Just another gravy train is all you are.... absolutedisgrace

Consumer protection watchdog - what the point? I certainly don’t feel protected. Another set up not worth its salt.

Boycott

Most suppliers increased their prices in advance as government gave them notice of decrease. Same happened with rent, government's fellow landlords got notice of max 4% future increase. It's seems circlekireland main culprit. My local garage €1.99 No way I won't pay Circle K!

TheHardShoulder Sounds like there needs to be a maximum pricing restriction to stop gouging then.
