I think he's been following WHS_Carpet and seen which way the wind is blowing.

Man who makes all his money from economic failure wants Britain to remain. Imagine my shock.

That was a lot of gobbledygook that appears to add up to the fact that people make a fortune gambling on stocks and don’t actually contribute anything to society. Wasn’t the idea of stocks to provide capital for companies in return for a share of profits?

This could be why he isn't liked.

You do have to wonder what WH Smith is for and how it keeps going. I suspect it's all those gift vouchers bought by grandparents for kids at Xmas that never get redeemed.
