About 100 stalls were razed in a fire that hit the Danao City public market in northern Cebu Thursday, June 2.

CEBU CITY –

The Danao Fire Station reported that P52-million worth of property was damaged as the damaged structures comprised 80 percent of the market’s total stalls.The fire was raised to general alarm about an hour after it broke out, prompting firefighters from Consolacion, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Talisay City, and Minglanilla to respond.

The fire reportedly started at the market’s general merchandise section. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. According to the Danao city public information office, the market was closed to public while investigation to determine the cause of fire is ongoing. This city has assured that it will extend financial assistance to the affected market vendors while also preparing the temporary market relocation area.Because of the fire, this city, headed by Mayor Nito Durano, has decided to cancel some activities for its Charter Day celebration next week.
