Malaysian Grab riders have shared on social media that they're planning for a protest this Friday, 5 August 2022. The protest is due to claims that Grab had lowered their rider fees, but is that really the case?

on Facebook, the protest has to do with an apparent fare change that went viral amongst Grab riders. According to the post, there’s an apparent screenshot showing a RM3 fare for June 2022—when the riders’ fare has always been RM5.

According to the post, the minimum fare for the Klang Valley has always been RM5 as “net earnings”, and it doesn’t count the RM3 as base earnings. It’s likely that a fake screenshot was shared instead, but I can’t personally find the screenshot myself. Still, many have shared their frustration on the Grab riders’ based Facebook pages. Some include that even though the minimum fare isn’t cut, Grab has “cut mileage and twisted the question”. There are also queries asking why Grab riders have moved to Shopee Food instead.

There’s no evidence or confirmation that Grab has changed its fee payments for its riders, but enough riders are angry enough to want to protest for change. In 2020,We have reached Grab to help clarify things on their end, but have yet to hear back from them. We will update the site for any updates.
