Waymo is now in rider-only mode in Phoenix and the East Valley.

Autonomous driving company Waymo has inked a lease for at least 65,000 square feet of industrial space at Central Logistics Center in Phoenix.

Waymo and entities linked to developer ViaWest Group entered into a more than five-year lease agreement in May, according to a memorandum of lease filed with the Maricopa County Recorder's Office. Waymo has the option to extend the term for another five years.It's unclear what Waymo will use its new facility for and when its opening date will be. The company could not be immediately reached for comment.which included two new buildings — a 94,146-square-foot class A industrial building that could be divided for two tenants and a 71,555-square-foot warehouse adjacent to the existing cold storage facility — as well as the renovation of a 76,301-square-foot freezer storage facility.

Phoenix-based ViaWest bought the site, which is south of the downtown Warehouse District, at 111 E. Buckeye Road in June of 2019 for $18.6 million, according to previous reporting by the Business Journal., who represented Waymo in its lease. Koplan could not be immediately reached for comment.
