The Director General of National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, has disclosed that the directorate has commenced training of youths on basic business in Anambra State.

In his address at the opening ceremony in Awka, yesterday, Fikpo, who was represented by the Assistant Director, Mrs. Carol Azubuike, reiterated that NDE has always carried out these activities with vigour and commitment to its mandate to reduce unemployment and poverty within the limits of its resources.

Also speaking, the Anambra State Coordinator, NDE, Mrs. Chika Ufelle, said the four-day training would equally serve as value re-orientation away from the culture of perpetual search for non-existent or dwindling employment opportunities. According to her, the training was developed as part of effort of the directorate to equip beneficiaries of the ‘Environpreneurship Development Skills’ training, who are participants of the exercise, with basic business skills, which would enhance their capacity to succeed in their chosen businesses.

She also noted that this was an exit strategy for participants of the training. She said: “Participants would undergo counseling sessions within the four-day period. They will equally be taught how to discover and establish their potentials as entrepreneurs.”
