The closure isn’t expected to affect American’s flight schedule at SFO, where United Airlines is the dominant carrier.

“Crew Planning is currently finalizing the forecast for vacancies at other bases, and you’ll have several options. It’s likely that all bases, except LAX, will have a certain number of vacancies,” according to American’s Sept. 14 memo to SFO-based flight attendants that was published by KRON-TV. American has operated its SFO flight attendant base for more than 50 years. A decade ago, American closed its SFO pilot base. , resulting in the layoff of 17 employees in October 2020. American’s history at the Oakland airport dated back to the years following World War II.
