The Government is being urged to clamp down on energy firms obtaining warrants to force-install prepayment energy meters after an investigation bySince July 2021, debt-collecting agents acting on behalf of some of the nation’s biggest gas and electricity companies have obtained more than 490,000 warrants to enter properties.

Ms Maskell said: “I’m shocked and appalled that so many people are being transferred on to more expensive prepayment meters in this way. The Government must take action to address this.” “The sheer number of warrants being approved to force people onto prepayment meters makes it difficult to accept case-by-case diligence is being taken. It looks like rubber stamping, which could leave vulnerable households going without power. This has got to stop.A gas prepayment meter.
