Most of Sanral's non-executive directors will serve another term. However, Treasury wants both the performance of the board and procurement reviewed. | News24_Business politicsblahbla

The board of the SA National Roads Agency , which has been criticised by industry for adopting impractical procurement policies not used elsewhere in the public sector and lacking appropriate skills, will remain largely intact, the Cabinet announced last week.

Three of its four independent non-executive directors have been retained. They include chairperson Themba Mhambi, a former English lecturer and government communications specialist; Piet Matosa, the former president of the National Union of Mineworkers ; and former Msunduzi mayor and geography lecturer Rob Haswell. All three were appointed by former transport minister Blade Nzimande in 2018.

Fresh blood and new skills added to the board include Refilwe Buthelezi, an engineer who is president of the Engineering Council of SA, and Noluphumzo Noxaka, a chartered accountant who serves as a director on several other state-owned entities. Engineering and financial skills were notably lacking on the board.Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. Thereafter you will be billed R75 per month.
