Thousands of seafood lovers are expected to arrive at the Sydney Fish Market over the weekend to purchase some of the 'best fish in the world' as the countdown to Christmas begins.

The Sydney Fish Market in Pyrmont is"rehearsed and ready" for a 36-hour seafood-selling marathon as thousands of customers prepare their Christmas feast.

“We had a few hundred people on site by the time 5am kicked off. And at the moment, we've got at least 1,000 people in all the shops buying their Christmas seafood," he said on Friday morning. "We’ve got some of the best fish in the world being caught all along the coast in the days preceding Christmas."
