Hundreds of Tasmanians with disabilities will need to switch NDIS provider as Anglicare Tasmania exits the market, saying it cannot continue to subsidise the federally funded services.

The Health and Community Services Union also raised concerns about the creation of "super organisations" with the exit of smaller service providers.

"Over the past two years Anglicare has subsidised the delivery of NDIS-related services. Further subsidy of NDIS service delivery is not sustainable long-term," the company said in a statement. Anglicare chief executive Chris Jones said the federal government had "recognised there are some major systemic problems with the NDIS".

HCSU state secretary Tim Jacobson said it was a "major decision by what is one of the biggest players in the Tasmanian disability sector".

Check their books. They're probably getting out before auditors find their fraudulent activity. They wouldn't be the only NDIS provider defrauding the system.

I called it 10 years ago when I left the industry

It's just another govt rort.

Not enough to keep the suits wealthy whilst paying the real staff a living wage. Shut it down.

220 staff for 420 clients! Seems out of proportion for all but the most severely disabled. NDIS is a golden goose for providers and the government should take charge now!

420 'clients', 220 staff. That, sadly, is a lousy 1.25 hours a day f2f per client, allocating 30 minutes travel between clients plus 15 minutes per visit for notes/follow up, 7 days a week, & assuming 20 indirect staff, 7.6hr working day, 10 days sick leave.

It was a fantastic idea by Labor, but it is proving to be a bottomless money pit. I'm not sure why private charities and organisations can't help out more financially to take some of the burden of the lower end taxpayers?

Unfortunately a good concept destroyed by incompetence and corruption.

tragic for those who need its services
