Ranging from disappointment to pure outrage, a litany of reactions have been put forward in response to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s decision to grant Eskom tariff increases of 18.65% and 12.74% over the next two years respectively.

Various organisations are up in arms over large electricity tariff increases granted to Eskom over the next two years.Eskom said that the hike will contribute positively to its finances.

"Nersa did not have much room to move considering Eskom’s challenging financial and operational position. To this extent the EIUG hopes, for certainty and price stability, that the decision is legally compliant and final and will stand," the organisation said. The Minerals Council South Africa, whose members consume about 30% of Eskom’s output, say that the tariff increases which have been announced will increase the mining industries electricity costs by R13.

The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa too said the tariff increases, though aimed at improving Eskom’s financial situation, will add more operational costs to companies in the consumer goods sector which are already battling with the financial impact of load shedding. A statement released by labour federation Cosatu echoed these sentiments, arguing that the tariff increases are not a viable solution to problems at the utility.

Outstanding debt, owed by municipalities and other consumers to Eskom, currently stands at R55 billion and is growing. The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse said Eskom remains in severe trouble, and noted its"outrage" at government’s failure to help South Africans to weather this storm.

Viva lol

In South Africa you get awarded for your failures.

Do you now understand why the ANC was a banned organisation? The rest of the world's power hungry criminal's are exited that the ANC came to power , it's easier to trade/steal with low iq criminal's

The conflicted white media never reported on a Shanduka-Thebe merger approved 24 hours before REIPP was signed to hid ramaphosa IPP stake, the conflicted NERSA_ZA chairman,+R25billion paid to IPPs instead of maintaining Eskom fleet, rupert being granted electricity trading license

This increase is not sustainable and a economic injustice the financial problems of Escom is a internal issue and is not fair and reasonable that the general public must bear the brunt of financial mismanagement that is going on for 15 years plus why must the public pay more?

And the Presidents hands are tied. aAg shame

SAns are naive and misinformed… how else are we going to pay back the debt crisi this country is in. A good chunk of that debt is Eskom on SAs balance sheet.JUNK STATUS 🔌

CyrilRamaphosa Eskom_SA It's time for South Africans to rise up against this kind of manipulation. We are being held hostage just so the SKELMS CAN MAINTAIN THEIR LUXURY LIFESTYLE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We here in Soweto are fine. We dont pay. Electricity is free. Oh and water is also free. Its very nice.

Lets calla spade a spade. The only reason for these increases is so that a badly performing eskom can subsidise the funds to keep the cadres fed.

It's a ridiculous increase for a service we are not getting, we keep paying alot more for alot less, and this BS must stop. It's time for mass action, Maybe the Paying customers must stop paying - Eskom is not worth the expense anymore!!!

they were paving way for this IPP guy😅🚮🚮🚮 to more darkness

People would pay if it would get them electricity but it won't. Nor will paying end crime and corruption that plague the industry and cause outages. Better management , some arrests and prosecutions, green policies would improve things. Peo want to see change.

It's disgusting and despicable! We the consumers must cough up and pay for power that we cannot get. The ANC and their criminal syndicates that have destroyed every other SOE, and are knocking the final nail into Eskom's coffin, are doing his for their own financial gain.🤬🤬

Just today I will have 12 hours load shedding, i work from house, my job is at risk at this point.

South Africans should stop procrastination.... we need to have a massive strike ... we tired of been held hostage in our own country ..while other countries are reaping the benefits

Maybe we should behave like the townships and informal settlements that refuse to pay and still get free electricity and water. Start burning tyres and keep the police and municipalities out. Let's see if they're as lenient with us as they are with their skin color

You fickel blacks will still vote for criminals to represent you .

The order was given by Geriatric Gwede and Demon Cyryl Ramaphosa who is a spineless failure and a thief to allow the increases .
