The new Northampton Market is entering its final stages of construction in Commercial Street car park ahead of traders moving in next week. West Northamptonshire Council is now "appealing to everyone" to visit them in their temporary home when it opens next Tuesday .
The multi-million pound renovation of Market Square, funded by a ring-fenced gGovernment grant, was announced back in 2021. Plans include new paving, new lighting, an 'interactive fountain' and 18 'high-quality and bespoke fixed stalls'. The son of famous trader Eamonn 'Fitzy' Fitzpatrick predicts he could lose up to 40 or 50 per cent of business on Commercial Street. WNC is not charging traders rent while the market is on the car park, but Joe said: "Free rent is no good if you're not making money."
If this council is in charge it’s guaranteed to be a car crash. Hope I’m wrong but I doubt it. Never shown any vision before so difficult to see why that should change
