to the campus to meet with the UNT Dallas cabinet about extending the food bank’s reach in southern Dallas County. After visiting the NTFB headquarters in Plano, Mong said they established a partnership for NTFB to serve students, first and foremost.

“When the pandemic hit in March, we shifted to a big mobile distribution for our community and started to serve everybody in south Dallas,” UNT Dallas project coordinator of experiential learningsaid. “At the height of the pandemic, we were seeing hundreds and hundreds of families and cars come to visit our distribution. There was a time that we got support from the National Guard to serve our community as well.

“At the beginning, we were a great resource for people that lived in South Dallas,” King said. “But as need has grown and the word has gone out about our distribution, we're seeing people come from all over Dallas, even as far as Arlington occasionally. Our community is just really trying to focus on other responsibilities like their kids, their family and their jobs, and we're able to provide a little bit of relief as far as the food goes.
