ESKOM LIVE | Stage 3 and 4 load shedding for the week | News24_Business

Eskom has announced that Stage 3 and 4 load shedding will be implemented for this week, until further notice.

The breakdowns currently amount to 16 920MW of generating capacity while 5 759MW of capacity is out of service for planned maintenance.Stage 4 load shedding will continue from 16:00 on Friday until 05:00 on Saturday morning. It will be downgraded to Stage 3 from 05:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday, after which it will again be reduced to Stage 2 until 16:00 on Sunday.

Finance is among the most hotly contested energy transition issues as developing countries - that have played a relatively minor role in creating the climate crisis - seek international support for both mitigation and adaptation efforts.Mr President, drop the empty promises and get real, yearns South Africa ahead of SONA

It is therefore not surprising that opposition parties and civil society have fairly low expectations of Thursday's address. As ANC MPs attack De Ruyter, Eskom chair denies Ramaphosa asked for tariff hike halt De Ruyter was speaking alongside the Minerals Council of South Africa's outgoing CEO Roger Baxter about South Africa's energy challenges at the Mining Indaba on Tuesday.

Eskom needs debt relief in combination with tariff increases to survive, said outgoing CEO André de Ruyter, who has led the utility for three years as South Africa’s power outages have intensified. Load shedding is needed to protect the grid from collapse when Eskom’s ageing and poorly maintained and mostly coal-fed plants can’t meet demand.South Africa is nearing 100 consecutive days of rolling blackouts, the longest stretch yet, with more to come as its electricity crisis deepens.

"The return to service of a generation unit each at Kendal and Lethabo power stations have been delayed while a unit each at Duvha and Lethabo power stations were returned to service." "Due to an improvement in available generation capacity, together with the lower weekend demand for electricity, Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 05:00 on Friday morning until 05:00 on Saturday morning.

But it takes long to secure a qualified nuclear supplier, so Eskom would prefer to reenact the agreement for fuel from Westinghouse.Conradie reiterates that open-cycle gas turbines are meant for use during periods of peak demand.Costs are also impacted by the logistics of getting the fuel to a plant.Conradie says there are cases of"repeat work" where work is done on a plant, but shortly after,, there is a failure of the plant.
