Should women beg for their rights, Nancy asks companies

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri says women are capable of playing a wider role in society than as merely housewives and mothers. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, March 12, 2023.

WOMEN, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri asked if women should beg the corporate world to adopt the government’s 30% female decision-makers policy. Nancy, in addressing the matter said, a loud voice is needed to ensure that women continue to be empowered and be presented with opportunities to further develop themselves and their families.

She said over the decades, women were only expected to take care of their household – with opportunities in education, sports and business dominated by men – but today women are able to play a wider role.“The government has already implemented this policy and, under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, it is working to ensure that this policy is achieved,” she said, adding that the policy should not be seen as excluding men, but for the mutual benefit of both genders.
