Half of Americans support a US government ban on TikTok, while 22% oppose the idea and more than a quarter are unsure, according to a Pew Research Center survey

The survey results — collected in the days before and after TikTok CEO Shou Chew testified before Congress on March 23 — highlight the company’s challenges in persuading the public TikTok does not pose a national security risk. But it also underscores that significant portions of the country, 28% of Americans, remain uncertain about a ban on TikTok, suggesting they do not have firm views on the matter.

Some 19% of TikTok users did express support for a US government ban, however. Those who know of TikTok’s connections to China are more than twice as likely to support a US government ban than those who are not aware of the link , according to the survey. The survey found, however, that most Americans — nearly two-thirds — are aware of TikTok’s China connection.

Only the nsa, cia, & fbi are allowed to spy on you. Other governments doing it is wrong, you have rights.

I dont know a single person who supports it now after that questioning

We did much better read more and focused more. Kids did better in school and folks didn't become political minions and zombies before social networks. People did better on all levels of quality of life from the 60s to the 80s. Globally

If it’s more than 50%, get it done. Tiktok is cancer.

But do they support another patriot act?

Note this article doesn't appear to state how many were actually surveyed nor just how many days it was taken. Forshame CNN, forshame...

Ban!!!

Is it because the CEO/ByteDance is Chinese? If they were Japanese/Korean/British/English/Russian etc; it would be alright no investigation needed? If that’s the case, how US claims to be the greatest country in the world, land of opportunity through democracy/freedom

The average American tiktok user will not be happy or understand why this is an issue. Sad. I get it. I'm hooked on Twitter. China doesn't own it but if they did, I'd find an alternate.

I am trying to decide why China created something that spreads what they fear more than any military weapon…our culture.

It’s time for them to get real jobs

Half of Americans use TikTok. So your math is off by a lot.

There are entire states defunding education and public libraries. Nothing surprises me.

They wouldn't if they knew how awful that bill is.

Who was polled, those who use TikTok or those who don't?

CNN are lying scum.

me when I lie

Like every bill they want to pass, they call it something and it does the exact opposite. The restrict act is a greater threat to privacy than tic tok could EVER hope to be, pay attention.

I can’t control the info in it, so let’s ban it.

That’s BS because over 150 million are actively fighting to save it.

By law, all Chinese companies are, in fact, an agent of China (2017 National Intelligence Law) ByteDance is a Chinese company..

The Meta propaganda machine is effective....

The government doesn't care about TikTok. They're using this as an opportunity to pass legislation to spy on the American publics online activity and ban or block anything they don't agree with or don't want you to see. OnlinePatriotAct

Did anyone in this thread take this survey?

It needs to be TikTok specific

No.

We must protect democracy! Right? Majority rules in a democracy so we must protect it and ban it for the will of the people! Unless you hate democracy!

Over 40% of our electronics are manufactured in China by Chinese companies, boxed up and shipped to the US, and sold to consumers. That includes smart TVs, network routers, Laptops and PC hardware, Alexa, Cell phones, and even police radios. But Tik Tok is the danger?

I simply don’t believe this, and I loathe tiktok. It’s too popular and widely used to have this many people in favor of banning it.

fascinating

China can't be permitted to spy on U.S. Citizens and to endanger our national security. Plus the Chinese Communist Party is using TikTok to push anti-American propaganda. BanTikTok

😂😂😂 no chance im believing this survey. Remember folks, never EVER believe a survey. Ever.
