The EPA has said Utica Resource Operating allowed uncontrolled emissions, affecting air quality in Guernsey, Morgan and Washington Counties.

The Environmental Protection Agency has said Utica Resource Operating allowed uncontrolled emissions from more than a dozen oil and gas well facilities in Guernsey, Morgan and Washington Counties, negatively impacting air quality.

On Wednesday, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth L. Parker announced the agreement, which was negotiated by the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental and Natural Resources Division and the EPA. Parker’s office said this resolves allegations that Utica Resource Operating violated the Clean Air Act at their facilities.

After the EPA discovered other issues related to inspections and recordkeeping at URO, the EPA issued a notice and finding of violations in August 2020.
