How I Manage My Money: Ruth Chipperfield is a jewellery business owner, 33, on £1,850-a-month who wants to buy £280k house she rents. She’s building up a rainy-day savings fund at present and hasn’t started saving money in a pension yet ⬇️ By Jane Denton

I find the cost of nurseries and childcare prohibitively expensive and I’m really annoyed by the Chancellor’s Budget pledge to increase funding with no implementation until after the general election next year. I used to pay £500 a month for my son’s nursery, but then discovered tax-free childcare, which saves me about £100 a month. I now pay around £450 a month for childcare and am very thankful that my mother looks after Arlo two days a week.

When it comes to savings, I currently add £400 a month to a spare current account I have. I’m trying to build up a rainy-day fund of about £6,000 and currently have £2,400 saved up in it. At some stage, I’d really love it if my husband and I could buy the house we are currently renting. We have great neighbours and it’s a really nice community. I have no idea whether the landlord would sell it and I have never met him. If he reads this, perhaps he will get in touch. I think the house would probably go on sale for around £280,000.
