Following a presentation by Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa on Wednesday, Cabinet directed a further assessment on the electricity situation.
In 2021, Germany, France, UK, US and the EU pledged $8.5 billion to assist South Africa – one of the world's worst polluters – to reduce carbon emissions, including by closing some of Eskom's old coal-fired power plants.
