Among FTSE 100 constituents, general mining company Anglo American PLC AAL, +7.74% saw the largest increase Thursday, as shares rallied 7.74%.

Glencore PLC GLEN, +4.36%, a general mining company, and gambling industries business Flutter Entertainment PLC FLTR, +4.36% rounded out the top five largest increases as their stocks rallied 4.36% and 4.36%, respectively. Shares of medical equipment/supplies firm Smith & Nephew PLC SN, -0.84% and clothing retail company Next PLC NXT, -0.61% dropped 0.84% and 0.61%, respectively.

The pound was down 0.65% against dollar GBPUSD, -0.59% at $1.2408 and 0.01% against the euro GBPEUR, +0.04% at €1.1641.

Analysis: Investors call 'peak pessimism' for beaten-up UK stocksLong-term gloom about Britain's economy appears to be lifting and some big investors reckon the end of extreme pessimism is near, with gains ahead for UK-focused businesses and the more international but long-shunned FTSE 100.
