It's goodbye to another high street institution

WHSmith has announced that it will be leaving Manchester’s high street with the closure of its Market Street store.

The high street giant, which opened its first store in 1792, sells books, stationary and convenience products at more than 1,100 stores across the country but it has noticeably shifted towards premises within airports, train stations and hospitals in recent years.

A customer notice on the shop front says: “Unfortunately this store will cease trading on 2nd December 2023. We would like to thank you for your custom.”
