Blackpool's very own mini Affleck's Palace opens

Blackpool now boasts its own little 'Afflecks corner' as trendy retail market finally opens in the coastal town. The much anticipated independent retail area of the Abingdon Street Market opened its doors for the first time on November 10.

The new section is the second phase of the transformation the historic indoor market hall, which saw food and drinks outlets breath new life into the rest of the iconic space earlier this year. The new retail section features a host of independent shops, with 10 units open and ready to welcome customers.

From a trainer cleaning service to a bakery, record store and affordable surfing gear shop, there's an eclectic mix on offer. The whole Abingdon Market complex is Blackpool's own version of Manchester effortlessly cool Northern Quarter or Liverpool's colourful and creative Bold Street and Baltic Triangle.

It is the first time retail units, which have created 40 jobs, have been present for several years, with the food, drink and live music hub opening in May. It is part of the final stages of the £3.6m investment in the council-owned building. The market is also available for use as an events space including for live music and community and charity events. The original stall-holders were relocated from the market in April 2021 and moved to Victoria Street.This bakery is already a bit of a household name on the Fydle coast and started out as a home bakery in 2012. Pop in to try one of their delicious delectables such as the famous brookies, brownies, blondies and newcomers, cookie dough bars.
