A Co Down man has paid tribute to his inspirational dad as he follows in his footsteps after launching a graphic design business specialising in laser engraving. Scorched Earth Designs specialises in creating customised wooden maps of geographic areas, that are all tailored to a customer’s requirements and make for very personalised gifts to mark that special occasion. Over the past five years the business has grown from a pre-pandemic pop-up to setting up home on the Belmont Road in East Belfast.

He said: "We decided we wanted to make wooden maps and bought ourselves a laser. We spent a few months learning how to use the machine and then in December 2019 we ran our first market stall, which was a success."
