The founder of the first Australian company to adopt a four-day workweek three years ago has opened up about the hidden challenges it has created for her business, Inventium. Amantha Imber said the truth behind the idyllic-sounding arrangement is going unreported. Imber’s upper-management concerns are mirrored in a multitude of academic studies, Curtin University Employment Expert Julia Richardson told 7NEWS.com.au.

saying we’ve got to prepare people for this, and we’ve got to manage it very carefully,” she said. “Be careful what you wish for, it’s a double-edged sword.” As it’s simply known, the “four-day workweek” is a catchy concept — but it means workplace expectations behind the pub-test winning arrangement remain ambiguous. “Are expecting four days worth of productivity, or are they expecting five days worth of productivity in four days?” Richardson said.
