Walkers of Trowell was first established on Nottingham Road in 1971

A husband and wife have said goodbye to their Trowell business after more than 50 years as the building goes on the market. Walkers of Trowell first opened on Nottingham Road in 1971, selling all things fishing and shooting.

Despite the success and history of the business, the owners said the time was right for them to retire. Ahead of their last day of operation at the start of May, the business posted on Facebook: "Walkers of Trowell is closing. We are retiring shortly after 53 years in the fishing and shooting business.

"This is a successful business. The only thing we owe is our gratitude to the many customers we have had the privilege to serve over the years."Family members were among those paying tribute to the business owners, with Sarah Bardens writing in a public post: "Today our lovely family business Walkers of Trowell closed its doors for the final time. The bell that rings on the door that has hung since its opening 53 years ago will never sound the same.

"My wonderful parents in law David & Eileen who have worked tirelessly 6 days a week, have lived and breathed that business and now get to enjoy their long overdue retirement which I hope will be filled with holidays, family, friends and fun! They seriously deserve it!" Rightmove is now advertising the building housing Walkers on a leasehold basis at £37,500 per year. The listing reads: "The property fronts the busy Nottingham Road and has good access to the local and national road network."
