More than 250 vendors and amusement rides will greet thousands of expected visitors and tourists this summer as the Downtown Anchorage market makes a return after a three year absence.

Afternoon FastCast May 6, 2024ANCHORAGE, Alaska - More than 250 vendors and amusement rides will greet thousands of expected visitors and tourists this summer as the Downtown Anchorage market makes a return after a three-year absence.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and the Alaska Railroad are working together to give the railroad authority over the land, said Veronica Hoxie, Mayor Dave Bronson’s communications director. Once that happens, homeless campers will be considered trespassing on the land near the market, Hoxie said.

“These rides will be here paired with vendors, both merchandising vendors and food vendors, there will be live on-stage entertainment,” Fox said. “When people come down to visit the Anchorage market this summer they’ll see a lot of things that are here from local Alaskans, made by local Alaskans, owned by local Alaskans.”

“The Saturday market moving back downtown signals that downtown is back and we’re done with all the COVID stuff and all of the other things,” Robbins said. “It’s going to be a huge economic boom for downtown as well.”
