The Ogbonge Small Scale Women Farmers Organisation in Nigeria has held a three-day women’s agricultural and entrepreneurial trade fair for

women-led businesses and players in the agri-business chain.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the president, Ogbonge-SWOFON, Chinasa Asonye, noted that it was their tenth anniversary but the first time holding a trade fair since they started. She said it was conceived to serve as a dynamic platform where women and other individuals can leverage the immense opportunities provided to gain visibility and foster collaboration among businesses.

Keynote speaker, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Lagos State, Emmanuel Audu, praised the industriousness of the women, pointing out that female folks are often better business managers. He regretted that many banks don’t want to lend to players in the agribusiness sector, urging that this must change. He called for more government and private-led support for women-led businesses, adding that data has shown that they can be trusted with credit and loans.
