Cold weather and an outdated roll-up-the-rim-to-win promotion slowed sales at Canadian Tim Hortons locations in its most recent quarter, said the CEO of the coffee chain's parent company, prompting Restaurant Brands International Inc. to revamp the contest for next year.

Comparable store sales at Tim Hortons fell 0.6 per cent worldwide, and 0.4 per cent in Canada. The company only breaks out each chain's home market for comparable sales figures.

The weather woes started in the back half of January and lasted until the end of February, said Alex Macedo, Tim Hortons president, in an interview following the conference call, and impacted performance across Canada.RBI started to see a decline in the program's effectiveness last year, said Cil, and decided to expand the number of giveaways for 2019's contest. However, the added investment did not drive the engagement the company expected and dragged down comparable sales about 0.

Cil stressed the company does not believe that the negative comparable sales figure for Tim Hortons accurately reflects the underlying strength of the Canadian business and said the company expects its April comparable sales to come in at about 1.5 per cent. "... The settlement agreement is fair, reasonable, and in the best interests of the class," wrote the judge, according to court documents.

While the judge found his objections raised legitimate concerns, they "are not of a type that undermine" the agreement.

Because this is the first year it's been cold in Canada?

timhortons says cold weather to blame? LOL how about the crap shoot for getting the orders right or products not as advertised. We live in Milton and the orders for something as simple a coffee with milk are wrong...50% of time. See new orea muffin! Wheres the filling guys?!

Terrible food and bad coffee may also have something to do with it.

I thought it was the awe full tasting coffee

Appropriate metaphor for how Timmies screwed themselves in the rear.

Blame the weather 😏

Coffee is crap, go try McDonald's McCafe

Lol cold weather scapegoat. How about your coffee sucks, your points system sucks, and your coffee is overpriced. Hence why we go to McDonald’s. Better coffee, better points system, and sometimes coffee is only a $1 for any size.

McDonalds coffee is way better, and they give it to you for $1 (at times).

LOL a hot drinks company is really gonna blame cold weather for slow sales 😂😂 how about 1) stop hiring so many Indians; 2) improve the coffee; 3) limit food options to the basics and improve it; 4) better roll up prizes w more chances to win (1 in 6 my ass)

They don't listen to customers. They introduced real shredded turkey instead of the cold cuts for a while, it was really nice and tasted a whole lot better. What did they do after all the positive reviews? Change it back to the old cold cuts... I love ya Tim's but I'm not dumb.

Maybe cause the coffe sucks. Service is worse. Food quality is worse then that!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Really.. I thought it was because of global warming?

Well at least they didn’t blame the mini apple fritters. 1/3 the size of country style

Not the cold. They raised prices too many times Simply sausage went from 1.39 to 2.10 in a year. Bought my last food at Tims March. Totally done with anything except coffee. When coffee passes 2.00 done there too

Spike in prices maybe the reason. McDonald's promotions for $1 coffee event fast service. I dont know must be the weather ?!

Crap service! Nothing to do with the weather...

Or the lack of consistency in the coffee🤔

Don't blame the weather. ..

That and McDs

No - just bad coffee!

A little less sugar in your bakery products so you don’t require an insulin injection every time.

It's not the cold weather, it's the quality of product and service which is driving their sales down!

The lousy coffee slowed sales.

People was buying the far superior coffee from McDonald's. At $1 a cup. Any size!

And crap product and crappier service

Ya right lmfao

Completely agree with these posts that the coffee tastes burnt. Used to be my favourite place to go

More likely the bitter, burnt coffee they serve.

It’s winter weather during 8 of the 12 months. Nice try.

So many reasons you're not getting my money and winter isn't one of them, I was still walking outside right past your cafes TimHortons and into another cafe!

It was the cold weather for sure, not the terrible product.

dont think it has to do with cold weather more than the fact that the price of everything has gone up significantly..

Ya... okay 🤣

Canada = Cold weather...it is why you’re supposed to be here! Go back to being just a coffee shop instead of trying to rule the world and teach your bakers to bake from scratch. Also, stop serving full service in drive thru! Coffee and “donuts” only!

Disgusting coffee and food slowed their sales

Perhaps the I can't get your order correct...ever... line ups too long and too slow (45 minutes😳😴) Cmon now.... Have to do way better TimHortons

Meanwhile, Nespresso sales are advancing..

Blame mother nature, no one else.

TimHortons Quality control and consistency. And consistently bad... doesn’t count. I stopped getting my morning bagel, because when I taste cinnamon on my H&G bagel every day ... it tells me they are not cleaning properly. And that’s gross.

Must be climate change I think we should put a tax on hot coffee

Their primary source of revenue is HOT COFFEE. Their slow sales may be an indicator that their coffee has become crappy, and folks are waking up to that fact.

I’m pretty sure it’s your horrible food and watered down coffee

But you serve hot drinks...

Change the lids to one that actually functions as a lid.

TimHortons maybe if all your locations offered non dairy milk at no extra charge your profits would t of suffered.

Maybe their sales slowed down because it isnt very good?

I promise you, it’s not the cold weather you twats. It’s the fact that some store advertise being open till a certain time, but close 30-45 minutes early. It’s also the over priced food, and mediocre coffee....🤷🏻‍♀️

Blame their garbage quality coffee. McDonalds coffee is 10x better

TimHortons how about because you don’t have almond/soy milk... or I can’t get anything vegan at your store? Starbucks it is.

Sorry, for me TimHortons I dont go to there anymore because of the number of customer service and ordering issues Ive had across at least 15 stores over the years. Eventually I gave up. Starbucks, Second Cup? dont think Ive ever had a problem.

Yeah TimHortons . . . . Nothing to do with horrible customer service and drive through always getting preference over in store.

Or maybe it was the $2.20 coffees ..

Tim’s need to improve staff I give up waiting ten min to be even served in the Scarborough warden Fairfax location.

Cold weather in Canada, eh? My my, totally unpredicted, amirite?

And the worst PR Spin of the month goes to ... that makes zero sense.

Cold weather decreased the sales of their hot coffee? Ummm. No. It’s because the coffee they serve is trash.

People more likely, drink a hot beverage during the cold times, not in the 25+ degrees. So your analyst should come up with different excuse about why people aren't much in the Timmy anymore.

Here I was thinking it was the terrible coffee...how silly of me

This just in: Baskins Robbins claims warm weather was the cause slower sales in Ice Cream

Agree coffee sucks. McDonalds has far better coffee that's not watered down. Let's not forget what they did when minimum wage went up.

But don't they have a commercial that specifically shows customers coming out in Polar Vortex type weather to get their Tims fix? Nice try.

No your shit products slowed sales

They sell got beverages...

I don't think the cold weather has anything to do with hot beverages and sweets.

How many people have jumped ship to McDonald's? Better service, more organized and of course better coffee.

How are they so sure it's not their terrible coffee....

How about increased prices, lower quality, service, and terrible app?

Quality ⬇️ Prices ⬆️

That's a weird way of spelling 'bad coffee'...

It's not slow sales....it's called protests.... Tim's is American folks There are 100's of better places than this Dump

I'd say it's more because of awful service.

Your product quality has dropped considerably, you all went cheap and it's taken its toll and everyone else got bettee

Its because ice capsany hot drink at tim hortons

It ain't cold weather, its people are moving on to other things. They are losing grip

So much for global warming....lol

Cold weather really gets me out of the mood for a hot beverage, and no one eats carbs in the winter. TimHortons You treat your employees like garbage, I'm boycotting you for that reason

How about crappy product and service TimHortons ? I say it has way more to do with that. Gotten worse and worse the last 4-5 yrs.

BUT YOU SERVE HOT DRINKS!!!

Time to let me truck idle more! We need some good old fashioned global warming!!!

hahaha what a messed up excuse for poor sales of hot beverages. I gave up going there after my 3rd cup of 'coffee' that tasted like dishwater. Their ownership is trying to put the chain our of business through suicidal cost cutting strategies.

Guess alot rewards were used

Nice try, blaming the weather. Blame the damn coffee. Watered down, cheap tasting coffee.

Shouldn't cold weather make people drink more coffee?
