South African wheelchair Champion Kgothatso Montjane, a three-time Grand Slam champion, speaking during a ceremony organised by the Limpopo government to celebrate her recent Wimbledon victory. The three-time Grand Slam champion was speaking during a ceremony to welcome her following her recent Wimbledon victory.
Montjane has pleaded with authorities to build tennis courts that children with disabilities can access to unearth talent. “I wanna have an impact on the society or the community. I realise that from all past struggles, it’s not easy to ask for money for myself, but if I can ask for assistance to make a change in the community, it is the right thing to do. I think it is important to give other kids an opportunity to play sports like tennis because I don’t want them to start late.”
Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba committed to raising funds to build a tennis court to fulfill Montjane’s dream. She added that some businesses have already pledged R300 000 for the construction of the tennis court. “It might cost around R500 000 for that tennis court. The captain of this industry who pledged to support the Premier was able to raise R290 000. So we have already raised more than 50 percent. My plea is for other business people to help make sure that her dreams come true. She is not asking you to pay for her trip.
