The ANC wants to find ways to recover lost ground after its decline in the 29 May elections.

National Assembly Speaker, Thoko Didiza and Defence Minister, Angie Motshekga attend ANC NEC meeting in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni on August 1, 2024.The party’s three-day NEC meeting followed by its three-day NEC Lekgotla got under way in Boksburg on Thursday morning.Speaking to the media before the start of their gathering, ANC Spokesperson Zuko Godlimpi says they want to use their meeting to find ways to resuscitate the party after losing its majority for the first time since 1994.

Godlimpi says, “This NEC is going to be the first official meeting of the NEC where the ANC considers the outcomes of the elections and takes a deep dive into the analysis of data from VD level to Wards and local municipalities. Then we will come up with a concrete action plan for the structures of the organisation after assessing the state of the organisation, of course.”

“Over the past two months the NEC has engaged with structures of the ANC across all regions and we are now working on the basis of insights that we have derived from that level, and we’re quite confident that out of this meeting, we would have a very clear sense of what to do in order to regain the lost ground,” adds Godlimpi.
