Many from the African National Congress were in attendance as the party prepares for its sixth term as the majority party in the National Assembly.. Amongst the ANC heavy weights was the soon to be inaugurated leader of the party, Cyril Ramaphosa, outgoing speaker of parliament, Baleka Mbete and party chair, Gwede Mantashe.
Incoming members of parliament from other opposition parties were also in attendance – including the leaders of the IFP, FF Plus, Cope and AIC. Also spotted in the crowd were public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, former IEC chair Brigalia Bam and South African Council of Churches general secretary, Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana.
