The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the ministry of power have called for increased private sector investment in green hydrogen opportunities

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and the ministry of power have jointly called for increased private-sector investment in green hydrogen opportunities.

They spoke at the opening ceremony of a two-day regional capacity-building workshop of the Economic Community of West African States , said the ECOWAS region has a huge potential in terms of renewable energy including solar, wind, hydro, among others. Korgo said the West Africa green hydrogen policy sets a target for the West African region to produce 0.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030 and 10 million tonnes by 2050.

The coordinator, who noted that the policies have been adopted by heads of state in the region, said the government and private sector need to collaborate to achieve the goals.
